Where to stay in Lake Bled: four bases
Where to stay in Lake Bled comes down to four choices: the town centre, the lakeshore, the village of Zasip, or a separate base at Lake Bohinj. The lake path is about 6 km long, so "by the lake" can still be a long walk from the bus station. Look at the map and your transport before you book.
This guide compares areas, not hotels, and gives no room prices or availability. If you would rather join a guided trip and sleep wherever is convenient, see the Lake Bled tours.

Lakeside, town centre, Zasip or Bohinj compared
What each base gives you and what to check.
| Base | Good for | Check before you book |
|---|---|---|
| Town centre | Bus connections, shops, a short walk to the water | The central bus station is north-east of the lake, about 3 minutes from the shore |
| Lakeshore | Views and walking out of the door | The path is about 6 km, so being at the lake is not the same as being near the bus station |
| Zasip | A village feel about 2 km north | Not on the shore, and no promise of short walks to every boat landing or of quiet |
| Lake Bohinj | A separate lake base for walking and the national park | Not Bled: lake access is at Ribčev Laz or Ukanc, and the rail town Bohinjska Bistrica is elsewhere |
For most first-time visitors without a car, the town centre is the safest base. With a car or a plan to walk the lake, a lakeshore stay gives better views. Choose Bohinj only if Bohinj is your main goal.

Town centre and lakeshore
The central bus station sits north-east of the lake at Cesta svobode and Grajska cesta, about 3 minutes on foot from the water. That is a strong reason to stay in the centre if you arrive by bus. The pletna boats leave from several landings, so check which one is closest: Kazina, Mlino, Vila Bled and Velika Zaka are the landings.
Staying on the shore is not the same as staying near the station. Ask your host about the walk to the bus stop and the nearest landing, and read the getting to Lake Bled guide for parking at your base.

Zasip: a village north of the lake
Zasip lies about 2 km north of Bled on the southern slope of Hom. It has the Church of St Catherine and a viewpoint on the hill. It is not on the lakeshore, so do not expect short walks to every pletna landing. Quiet is not guaranteed either.
It suits you if you want a village base and are happy to walk or take the bus into town. Check the route for your arrival time before you book.

Staying at Lake Bohinj instead
Lake Bohinj is its own destination, not "Bled by the water". The bus runs from Ljubljana via Bled and Bohinjska Bistrica to Ribčev Laz and on to Ukanc, with seasonal extra transport. Bohinjska Bistrica is a different place with a rail link, and trains do not run to the lakeshore.
Do not assume that Bohinj has fewer guests or lower prices. Check the daily timetable for evening and winter connections to your stay. See the Lake Bohinj guide for the sights and the Vogel cable car, which is closed for maintenance, expected until 1 December 2026.

Tourist tax and what else to budget
Costs that sit on top of the room price.
Tourist tax in Bled
The rate is €3.13 per adult per night, €1.56 for children aged 7 to 17 and nothing under 7. The rate combines the tourism levy and the promotion fee. Bohinj and other places charge their own rates. Ask your host whether the tax is included in the price shown.
Parking
The central car park costs €2.50 per hour, and other rates are €4.50 per hour and above. If you bring a car, ask whether the accommodation has its own space.
Getting around
Most sights are within walking distance of each other. Vintgar Gorge has its own shuttle from Bled bus station that is included in the gorge ticket. For the sights, see things to do in Lake Bled.
Where to stay in Lake Bled: frequently asked questions
Which area is the most practical to stay in at Lake Bled?
For most first-time visitors without a car, the town centre, because the bus station is about 3 minutes from the lake. With a car or for views, the lakeshore is an option.
Is it better to stay at Lake Bled or Lake Bohinj?
It depends on your plans. Bohinj is a different lake with its own bus route and rules. Stay there if Bohinj and the national park are your main goal, not as a cheaper way to see Bled.
Can I walk to the island from my hotel?
The island is reached by boat, not on foot. The usual way is the pletna, which leaves from several landings, so check which is closest to where you stay.

Usually yes. The rate is €3.13 per adult per night and €1.56 for children aged 7 to 17, with children under 7 free. Check with your host whether it is included.
Is this the official Lake Bled website?
No. This is an independent travel guide. It is not the website of the municipality of Bled, Turizem Bled or the Slovenian Tourist Board, and it is not connected to any hotel or operator.
