Lake Bled sights in one place

Most visitors build their day around four things: the island in the lake, the castle on its rock, a walk around the shore and one viewpoint. Vintgar Gorge and Lake Bohinj fill a second or third day. Each sight has its own ticket, and the lake itself is free to walk around.

The classic start is the island. A Pletna boat to Bled Island costs €20 for adults on the return trip, and the island's church and bell tower have a separate admission. If you want a guided day with transport, compare the Lake Bled tours.

The main sights

Prices are for adults in 2026 and they change.

Bled Island and its church

The island has a church with a wishing bell, a bell tower and a small museum in the provost's house. The south stairs have 99 steps. Pletna boats leave when they are full, and the return costs €20 (children aged 4 to 12: €10). The island's cultural admission is €12. In summer the church is open from 08:30 to 19:00.

Bled Castle

The castle stands on a rock above the lake. It has a museum, a chapel, a printing house and a wine cellar. Adults pay €19 in 2026, children €7 and students €11.50. From April to October it is open from 08:00 to 20:00, with last entry 30 minutes earlier. Footpaths up to the castle can be closed for a time, so check which one is open before you start.

Vintgar Gorge

A wooden walkway leads along the Radovna river for 1,600 m, about 45 minutes. With the return path and the shuttle, plan about 3 hours. You choose a date and a time window, and a helmet is required in the gorge. Adults pay €15 for the combined pass.

Ojstrica and Mala Osojnica

Ojstrica (611 m) is a short, steep climb of about 20 minutes through forest. Mala Osojnica (685 m) takes about 45 minutes on a steep forest path, and Velika Osojnica (756 m) is another 20 minutes further. Wear hiking shoes, carry water and skip the climbs in wet weather.

Lake Bohinj

The larger lake lies in Triglav National Park and can be reached by bus from Bled via Bohinjska Bistrica to Ribčev Laz. Savica Falls cost €4 from age 16. The Vogel cable car is closed for maintenance until about 1 December 2026.

For most visitors with one day, a good order is the island in the morning, the castle in the afternoon and a viewpoint before dusk. With two days, add Vintgar Gorge on the second. In wet weather the castle museum is a good indoor choice.

Swimming, quiet corners and day trips

What else fits around the main sights.

Zasip, a village about 2 km north of Bled on the slope of Hom, is a calmer base for a walk away from the shore. A trip on the lake with a rented rowing boat is another way to see the island, and the history page explains why the church became a pilgrimage site.

Things to do in Lake Bled: frequently asked questions

What are the main things to do in Lake Bled?

The island with the Pletna boat, Bled Castle, Vintgar Gorge and a viewpoint such as Ojstrica or Mala Osojnica. Swimming and the cream cake fit around them in summer.

Is there an entry fee for the lake?

No flat fee is charged for the lake itself. The Pletna, the island, the castle and the gorge are priced separately, and parking is charged at the car parks.

Can I walk around the lake?

Yes. The path is about 6 km long. The climbs to the viewpoints add distance and effort, so the loop is not a flat walk if you include them.

What should I do when it rains?

Visit the castle museum, which opened its full permanent exhibition on 21 May 2026, and plan a cream cake stop. Rain alone does not close Vintgar Gorge, but the steep viewpoint paths are better left for dry weather.

How many things can I see in one day?

The island, the castle and one viewpoint are realistic. Vintgar Gorge needs about 3 hours on its own, and Lake Bohinj needs a second day.

Is lake-bled.org the official site of Bled?

No. This is an independent travel guide with no link to the municipality, the tourist board or any operator mentioned.
