Lake Bled weather in short

Summer highs average 25 °C in July, and January nights average minus 5.6 °C. It rains in every month, with the most in autumn. The table below uses climate averages of the station at Lesce, a nearby town at 515 m, for the years 1981 to 2010. These are averages of a past period, not a forecast, and the lakeshore and the summits can differ from the station.

Plan around the season, not around one number. Boats, the lido and the gorge all depend on weather, so check the sky on the day. If you are choosing a date, the page on the best time to visit Lake Bled turns these figures into a plan, and a pletna ride to the island works best on a dry day.

Water temperature

Lake water is much slower to change than the air.

Summer

In summer the lake warms up to 25 °C. That is the figure for the warmest weeks, not an average for the whole season. The temperature varies from year to year, so do not count on a given temperature in June or September.

Winter

In winter the water can fall to 4 °C. Do not assume the lake is safe to walk on or that it freezes every year. Stay on the shore paths.

Swimming

The lido season, prices and the three bathing areas are in the swimming guide. The lido closes when it rains.

What the weather changes on site

The weather decides what is open, and you can plan for it. Pletna boats leave when they are full and run on shorter hours from November to March, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Do not count on a boat in bad weather. The castle is open until 6 p.m. in winter and until 8 p.m. from April to October.

Vintgar Gorge stays open in rain, as rain alone is not a reason to close. Extreme weather can close it. The Savica waterfall can close in heavy rain, thunderstorms, snow, ice, high water or rockfall risk. The paths to Ojstrica and the Osojnica peaks are steep forest ascents of 20 to 45 minutes, so wear sturdy shoes and go up only when the sky is stable. More in the hiking guide.
