Lake Bled at a glance
Lake Bled (Blejsko jezero) is a small glacial lake in Slovenia with an island (Blejski otok) in the middle and Bled Castle (Blejski grad) on a rock above the shore. The basin owes its shape to glaciers and tectonic movement. A path runs around the water, about 6 km long, and you can walk it in an easy half day.
The lake is easy to reach. Ljubljana airport is 36 km away, and buses run from Ljubljana via Kranj and Radovljica. There is no flat entry fee for the lake itself. The island boat, the island church, the castle and Vintgar Gorge each have their own ticket, and this guide lists them one by one. Prices are in euros for 2026, and they change.
Above the water, three viewpoints give the classic photo: Ojstrica (611 m), Mala Osojnica (685 m) and Velika Osojnica (756 m). The village of Zasip lies about 2 km north of Bled. In summer the lake reaches up to 25 °C, and in winter it cools to around 4 °C.
