The best time to visit Lake Bled
There is no single best time to visit Lake Bled. Summer gives you the lido, the longest opening hours and the most visitors. Spring and autumn give you shorter hours and more room. Winter gives you a quiet lake, a closed gorge and a winter programme from late November. Pick the season by the thing you cannot do without.
July and August are the stronger visiting months, so plan the busiest sights for early or late in the day. If the pletna to the island is the point of your trip, read the Bled Island guide for the boat times and prices of each season.

The seasons compared
What suits each time of year and what to watch for.
| Season | Good for | Watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Spring, April and May | Longer castle hours, the gorge opens in April, fewer visitors | Cold water, rain of 106 to 108 mm per month, gorge open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until 31 May |
| Summer, June to August | Swimming, longest days, pletna 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. from May to September | Stronger visitor numbers in July and August, rain in showers |
| Autumn, September to November | Hill colours, shorter queues, pletna until 6 p.m. in October | Rain peaks at 152 to 157 mm, Vogel cable car closed, rail works in 2026 |
| Winter, December to March | Quiet lake, winter programme in the park | Gorge closed, pletna 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., cold nights, snow not guaranteed |
For most visitors, late June or early September is a good balance: the lido is open, the days are long and the busiest weeks of July and August are over or not yet here. If you only want sights and not swimming, May is a good month too.

Best time for swimming
The Castle Beach lido ran from 6 June to 10 September in 2026, with opening hours of 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the middle of the summer. The lake water warms up to 25 °C in summer, but there is no guaranteed temperature in a given month. Swimming season and lido season are not the same, so plan on July and August for the warmest water.
For prices, bathing areas and rules, see the swimming guide. For temperatures month by month, see the weather page.

Best time for Vintgar Gorge and the mountains
The gorge is seasonal, the viewpoints are steep.
Vintgar Gorge
The gorge opens in April and is closed in winter. The season ends in October or November, so check the date before you go. Opening hours change through the year: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. until 31 May, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from 1 June to 5 July, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from 6 July to 30 August, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. from 31 August to 20 September and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from 21 September. Go early, because late morning is the busy time.
Ojstrica and Osojnica
The ascents are short, 20 to 45 minutes, but steep forest paths. Short does not mean weather-proof. Go in dry weather and wear sturdy shoes. See the hiking guide.
Lake Bohinj and Savica
The Savica waterfall has set hours: August and September 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., October 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., November and December 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It costs €4 from the age of 16, and the first Sunday of every month is free for everyone. The Vogel cable car is closed for maintenance until about 1 December 2026. See Lake Bohinj.
Winter at Lake Bled
The quiet season, with a programme in the park.
Shorter hours
From November to March the pletna runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the castle is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The island church has hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Friday to Sunday in January, February, November and December.
The winter programme
The Zimska pravljica programme runs from 27 November 2026 to 10 January 2027 between the Zdraviliški park, the lake promenade and Hotel Park. The lights are switched on on 28 November. Hours and details can change. Read the December guide.
Snow
On average 11 mornings in December have snow cover. That is not a guarantee, so treat snow as a bonus and not as the reason for the trip.
